Aglaonice of Thessaly, a female astrologer active sometime between the 5th and 1st century BCE, was famed for “drawing down the Moon”—likely a mastery of eclipse prediction. Her story reflects how astrological knowledge from women and other historically marginalized figures has been lost or obscured. This talk explores the mechanics of lunar eclipses, the contributions of overlooked astrologers, and how eclipse cycles shaped ancient predictive traditions.
